Confronting personal beliefs and legacies of racism necessitates communities to gather together for individual and collective healing, while acknowledging that for many, the process of healing can be empowering.

Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North

TracesOfTheTrade.org In Traces of the Trade, Producer/Director Katrina Browne tells the story of her forefathers, the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history. Given the myth that the South is solely responsible for slavery, viewers will be surprised to learn that Browne’s ancestors were Northerners. The film follows Browne and nine fellow family members on a remarkable journey which brings them face-to-face with the history and legacy of New England’s hidden enterprise.

Discussion guides are available for all types of groups, including faith based.

Veterans of Hope Project

VoHP is a multifaceted educational initiative on religion, culture and participatory democracy. We encourage a healing-centered approach to community-building that recognizes the interconnectedness of spirit, creativity and citizenship. Our educational materials are designed to support reconciliation, nonviolence and an appreciation for the value of indigenous and folk wisdom for contemporary times.

Deer Park Monastery

Deer Park Monastery is a community in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh & the Plum Village Practice Center. It was established in July 2000 by the Plum Village four-fold Sangha. Now, it is a safe and serene refuge for many practitioners to come and learn the art of mindful living and practicing with a community, or Sangha.

Hope in the Cities is building trust through honest conversations on race, reconciliation and responsibility. Its goal is the creation of just and inclusive communities.

    Hope in the Cities is an interracial, multi-faith network providing a framework to connect communities across traditional barriers. Its model of honest conversation incorporates three vital steps: dialogue with people of all backgrounds and viewpoints; personal responsibility and change as a foundation for institutional transformation; and Intentional acts of reconciliation.
