Biography
Dr. Bleed's primary interest is technology and especially the application of evolutionary approaches to the study of material culture. In addition to traditional excavation, these interests have led him to experimental studies of tool effectiveness, evaluation of prehistoric and ethnographic tools in terms of design principles developed by engineers, and theoretical study archaeological tools assemblages. He is interested in both prehistoric Japan and historic North America and has recently begun investigation of the battlefields of the Spanish Cuban-American War of 1898 and is undertaking research on Civil War era battlefields in the Great Plains.
