A message from the President of the Board:
The Relevance
of our Alliance
By Eva Moya (KNFP-13)

In the 12 years since our founding, the Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance has grown to nearly 1,600 fellows in 53 countries, representing 14 different W.K Kellogg Foundation Fellowship programs. The relevance of the KFLA is grounded in its diversity, the international network of leaders, the activism, innovation, and the thinkers and doers who come together to make our communities more just and equitable. KFLA achieves this through innovative network-building, convenings, initiatives, and best practices that help fellows and leaders change the world.

The humanitarian crisis unfolding at the border unites us in outrage and determination. This crisis of leadership, policy and human decency calls us to action as Fellows, as leaders, and as people.

While not a new or isolated incident in this nation’s past or present—the internment and separation of families is a policy long wielded as a weapon of oppression in the United States and around the world—this moment viscerally illustrates the urgent need for collective action in support of our fundamental shared values.

As a network of leaders who care deeply about building a brighter, more equitable and just world for all children and communities—we know many of you are already deeply involved in this work. And, like many of you, some of our first questions were: “What are Fellows on-the-ground doing and saying?” and “How can we help?”

To discuss this, we invite you to a special live Leadership Matters Roundtable on Immigration this Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 7PM Eastern.

The Panel

Esperanza Zendejas | Superintendent, Brownsville Independent School District
Eva Moya | Interim Chair / Assoc. Professor, The University of Texas at El Paso Dept. of Social Work
Susan Reed | Managing Attorney, Michigan Immigrant Rights Center
Leslye Orloff | President, National Immigrant Women's Advocacy Project

ImmigrationPanelists

Please join us for a panel discussion and dialogue with leaders deeply involved in different aspects of this crisis followed by an online discussion among Fellows about what’s happening and what’s next.

Leadership Matters series host, Tanya Dawkins, will moderate the roundtable and dialogue.

LIVE June 28th, 2018 @ 7PM ET. Join Dr. Eva Moya, Dr. Esperanza Zendejas, Leslye Orloff, and Susan Reed with Tanya Dawkins as moderator for a special Leadership Matters Roundtable...

To stay relevant, we actively look for, and adjust to, shifting trends within environment and time. We take time to inform each other, network and embrace “new” or “different” ideas and act. We nurture a culture of fellowship and leadership that embraces relevance as essential to survival, open-mindedness to new ideas and courage to drive change.

Field Report:
Mexico 2015

40 Mexican Kellogg Fellows joined KFLA in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México from June 24th-27th for a gathering held as part of our ongoing Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) initiative. Our goal: provide a space for Mexican fellows to discuss specific issues, strengthen alliances, and develop tangible projects in their local communities.

With support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Latin America office, we have engaged over 250 new fellows in our growing LAC network since 2012.

“After four days of working, networking, and sharing new ideas, projects and dreams, I return home with a suitcase full of learning, re-energized and excited to collaborate with such talented people, whom I admire and am proud to call friends. Thanks to all!”
Angelina Martinez (KPFL-02)

The KFLA Network connected me to the next step in my career: I was absolutely amazed and pleasantly surprised when I saw the opportunity posted on the KFLA site by my dear colleague Dr. Betty Overton-Adkins. I called and applied for the position. After a nationwide search, I was selected as Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Overton-Adkins even provided a reference for me.

If you are looking for fellowship opportunities, professional development opportunities, coaching opportunities, job opportunities, or even broader ways to connect – check out the KFLA opportunities. More:  Read the rest of Reggie's post »
