Biography

Virginia G. Galvin, M.D., M.P.H., a native of Atlanta, received her B.A. at the University of Texas at Austin in 1973. From there, she went on to receive her M.D. in 1977 at Emory University School of medicine. She served on active duty in the military as Captain, United States Air Force Medical Corps in Charleston, South Carolina from 1978 to 1982. After completing her intership in Obstetrics/gynecology and residency in Emergency Medicine at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in 1983, she served as Chief Resident at Emory. In 1985, she became Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Galvin completed her Masters in Public Health in 1988. She continued to serve as Captain, Stand-By Reserve until 1996. She is now in inactive status. Currently, she is an active member in the Kellogg National Fellowship Program. As a member in the fellowship, Dr. Galvin has visited many countries, including China, Ecuador, and Egypt, to study their cultures and mores regarding family and community. Numerous aawards, honors, and publications are to her credit. Dr. Galvin is the District Health Director for the Cobb and Douglas Counties Boards of Health. With her leadership, vision, and development of organizational values, she is introducing the private sector of health care to the mission of public health in Cobb and Douglas counties. This collaborative partnership is just the beginning of exploring and creating opportunities to achieve optimal health care for all county citizens.
