Biography

Martha Warren Bidez, Ph.D. is an internationally-renowned biomedical engineer, educator, business entrepreneur, and system safety consultant. She has over 30 years experience in serious injury (i.e., mishap) investigation in the field, scientific research and teaching at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Engineering, and technology transfer within the healthcare sector. Dr. Bidez founded an international biomedical implant manufacturing company, BioHorizons, Inc., and served as its CEO from August 1994 to November 1999 and as Chairperson of its Board of Directors until the corporation was sold in August 2006 to HealthPoint Capital (NY, NY). She is a National Leadership Fellow of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), an honor bestowed on the top 2% of the field. She has appeared on ABC's 20/20 addressing child auto safety and was featured in the book Women Who Mean Business - Success Stories of Women over Forty. She holds active memberships in numerous professional engineering societies. Dr. Bidez currently holds the rank of Professor and Graduate Program Director, UAB Master of Engineering in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management. She also serves as Executive Director of eLearning and Professional Studies at UAB. She has been married to her college sweetheart, Earle Bidez, for 33 years. They have three furry children: Nellie (Husky), Norton (Golden Retriever) and Claire, the cat.
