Shirley Sherrod (KNFP-13) lectures nationally on issues of importance to middle class families, the poor, and small communities. The Courage To Hope tells my own story of growing up on a farm in segregated Baker County Georgia, my activism during the civil rights movement of the 60' and 70's and my work with farmers and their struggles for economic and social justice. It also details my experience working with USDA as Georgia's first Black Director of Rural Development, including being asked to resign due to false accusations. The Courage To Hope is a story of my evolution, as I slowly realized that in order to achieve true equality, there has to be reconciliation between races and cultures. The struggle must include everyone who desires to see and experience and redefine the American Dream.
