Leadership Matters: One on One with Kevin Fong

Healing as an essential element in advancing equity and justice

Clairvoyance or just perfect timing? This is the question I found myself asking as I listened to this month’s powerful and timely Leadership Matters installment which spanned topics ranging from confederate monuments to healing as leadership to the ABC’s of social change and the universal power of the circle.

One on One with Kevin Fong is the latest contribution to one of our priority Leadership Matters series themes — Race, Healing, Equity and Justice — with a special focus on healing.

Our conversation took place before the horrific and racially charged events of Charlottesville and offer powerful insights into what it takes to create the conditions for healing around some of the issues that have burst into the headlines since that fateful day.

“Healing is a path to creating the safe space needed for the work of equity and justice” — Kevin Fong

We talked why healing must be an essential element in the work of advancing equity and justice, rather than an after thought. Along the way we explored some important lessons learned from legal advances like voting rights and marriage equality. Although legal and policy victories are critical, making those rights real requires healing work that continues long after sound of a judge’s gavel hitting the desk.

Our topics were woven together with Kevin’s storytelling and insights from his decades of work as a healer and leader in movements for health justice, racial justice, leadership and community.

Listen in to hear Kevin’s stories and learn about a transformative vision for healing circles “in every classroom, courtroom, boardroom and community” that couldn’t be more timely.
