Regina is a professor, researcher, writer and co-founder and director of the Training Institute (since 1999). She is also the founder and president of the Maranhão Amazônia Institute of Higher Education (IMAES) and founder and director of the Integrated College Training (Formação Faculdade Integrada - FFI). She has a PhD in Education from University of Sao Paulo (USP) (2013) and a Doctorate Sandwich by USP / University of Sevilla (2012). Her dissertation is titled “Education and Work Beyond the Horizon of the Market and Oligarchies.” She graduated from the Federal University of Maranhão (1988); Course in Popular Education and Adult Literacy, by CEAAL, Crefal, Pátzcuaro, México (1989); Specialized in Literacy, Federal University of Maranhão (1994); Master in Education, Federal University of Maranhão (1999); Training Course in Leadership and Social Development for Latin America and The Caribbean, Federal University of Pernambuco (2003); Course on Social Leadership by the Academic and Professional Programs for the Americas - LASPAU, Boston, EUA (2006); Course on Social Economy and Local Development, University of General Sarmiento, AR (2007). Regina coordinated the RAAAB (Support Network for Literacy Action in Brazil) and the State Forum in Defense of Public Education in Maranhão (1989-1994). She worked in the Education Department of São Luis as coordinator of education and assistant secretary of education (1996-1997). She also worked as a consultant in the Brazilian Ministry of Education / PNUD articulating secretariats of education of municipalities and Brazilian states to guarantee the continuous formation of teachers (1999-2001). Professor in the disciplines of History and Politics of Brazilian Education, Philosophy of Education, Popular Education and Literacy. Research topics: history of the struggle for public education in Brazil (HISTEDBR - UFMA/ UNICAMP); management of educational projects in municipal education systems (USP); youth and adult literacy, youth and public policies, professional education in the perspective of local sustainable development (Fomação Institute). Regina conceived and coordinated the Integrated Set of Projects (CIP Young Citizen) integrating cultural, social and economic development (from 2003 to 2008); educational projects for High School and Professional Education Centers (CEMP) - in certain points of territory development (since 2004); Youth and Adult Education (EJA) professionalizing project (2004-2008). She advised the implementation of youth professional training experiences articulating this training process with social practice in the communities where they live. Coordinated the systematization team of the Education Plan of the City of São Paulo (2010) and elaborated reports on the process of the construction of this plan (2011). Coordinated the final drafting of the Sustainable Territorial Development Plan for the Campos and Lagos Rural Territory (2012). Elaborated teaching materials for the continuous training and education of young people and adults considering the dimensions of their political, cultural and professional formation (from 1990 to 2003). She is the author of many articles and books, and the latest publication is a poetry book titled O Silêncio Que Não é Calado (The Silence that is Not Silent). She has been an Ashoka Fellow since 2010 and a member of the Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance since 2012.
