Biography

William J. Reckmeyer, Ph.D. (KNFP-9) is Professor Emeritus of Leadership & Systems and Director Emeritus of the SJSU Salzburg Program at San José State University (1977-2017). He also served as a Visiting Professor or Senior Fellow at Harvard, Stanford, USC, Sydney, Stockholm, and a dozen other universities in the US, Europe, and Australia (1985-2010). Bill is a cybernetician/systems scientist whose teaching, research, and practice focuses on collaborative approaches to systemic leadership and strategic change in complex organizational, community, national, and global settings. Much of his work during the past 25 years has involved leading multi-year strategic transformation efforts in a variety of organizational and interagency settings; providing senior-level advice on integrated strategy for the US, Australian, and Californian governments; and promot-ing global citizenship in higher education around the world. Significant leadership responsibilities include service as President, American Society for Cybernetics (1982-1985); Co-Founder, Silicon Valley Regional Leadership Forum (1986-1989); Strategic Advisor & Core Faculty, California Agricultural Leadership Program (1997-2010); Board President, Hospice of the Valley (2001-2007); Chief Systems Scientist, Systems of Systems Center of Excellence at the US Department of Defense (2003-2006); Faculty Chair, Salzburg Global Seminar's International Study Program on Global Citizenship (2004-2015); and Strategic Advisor, California Levees Roundtable (2007-2010). Academic honors include SJSU Outstanding Professor (2010), Austen D. Warburton Award for Outstanding Scholarly Achievement (2009), and Distinguished Faculty Mentor Award (2011) at San José State. Selected professional honors include Salzburg Global Fellow (1995-2015); Fulbright Scholar-Host (2007); AASCU Global Scholar (2012); and Norbert Wiener Gold Medal (2016), American Society for Cybernetics.
