Biography

- At the time of the Kellogg Fellowship I was a political appointee in the State Government in Michigan. During that period I was also a community activist and founded the Hospice of Lansing and co-founded a community-sponsored HMO, now called Health Central. Both of these institutions still exist and are flourishing. - During the 80's once again I became an organizer: This time it was a statewide women's peace organization called WAND (Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament). Once my three sons went off to college in 1988 my husband and I moved to Washington, DC so that I could become the director of the Washington office of a national women's peace organization (MEND -- Mothers Embracing Nuclear Disarmament). MEND disbanded in '91. As a consultant, I organized several international conferences of women peace activists, followed by a stint as Executive Director of the National Council of Nonprofit Associations (NCNA). I retired from the world of paid work in 1995 though I continued to offer consulting services pro bono to non-profits in DC. My areas of interest include fund-raising, organizational development and governance. - For the past 10 years I have been a permanent volunteer at the Alliance for Justice (a nonprofit coalition involved with the federal judicial selection process) and Americans for Peace Now (the American support group for Peace Now, the mainstream peace organization in Israel working toward a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict).
