Biography

George Simmons served as Dean of the College of Science and Engineering at Seattle University from 1998 to 2007, and now holds the title of Dean Emeritus from Seattle University, and Professor Emeritus from the University of Idaho. Prior to arriving at Seattle University, he served as Vice Provost at the University of Idaho, and Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, among many other duties. He has also worked as senior engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and was selected as a national Kellogg Fellow for the years 1987 through 1990. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Idaho, and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. Dr. Simmons is actively engaged in the Baltimore/Washington music scene, and is a founding member of the Sine Nomine, a renaissance performing group. He plays renaissance wind instruments (recorder, rackett, crumhorn etc.) and portativ organ. Recent volunteer activities include membership on the Advisory Board for the Martin Institute at the University of Idaho, which administers the International Studies Program for the University. Dr. Simmons we recently inducted into the Idaho Academy of Engineers.
