Biography

Roxanne Gould (Grand Traverse Band Odawa/ Ojibwe) received her doctorate from the UMN in education with her research emphasis on global Indigenous education and leadership, an MA in Educational Psychology and Counseling and BA in American Indian Studies from the University of South Dakota. Roxanne currently serves as in the Ruth Myers Center for Indigenous Education and College of Education at the UMN-Duluth. Prior to coming to UMD Roxanne worked in K-12 and higher education always in programs serving Indigenous peoples and communities of color, including tribal, community and private colleges and state universities. As a past recipient of Bush and Kellogg Leadership fellowships Roxanne was afforded the opportunity to research and work with Indigenous peoples throughout the world on educational initiatives and issues. Her passion to create Indigenous global alliances to create social change has opened doors to organize Indigenous exchanges to Guatemala, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and Basque country, Namibia and most recently to Bolivia where she facilitated a three year agreement with their Ministry of Decolonization to work collaborative on issues concern and topics of interest such as; climate change, education, health and wellness and culture. Roxanne also is the founder of the Bdote Learning Center, a Dakota and Ojibwe language immersion school and serves on the boards of the Indigenous Educational Institute, Dream of Wild Health, Makoce Ikikcupi and the American Indian Advisory Committee for the Science Museum of MN. Roxanne’s work reflects her commitment to Indigenous environmental sustainability, social justice and decolonization.
