Biography

Mr. Eric Castañares Maddox is the Coordinator of Forests for the Yucatan Peninsula at the Nature Conservancy in Merida Yucatan, Mexico. The tropical dry forest of the Puuc Region has been home to the Mayas for over 2,700 years. As it exists today, this forest is the largest healthy patch of its kind on the Peninsula and shelters an important biocultural heritage. We are creating a model for more efficient public and private investment that fosters conservation while empowering local communities with sustainable alternatives. As a result, we hope this TNC initiative will set an example for sustainable development in the Mesoamerican Region.
