Biography
Verenice is the principal at a school where 77 percent of the students are students of color, 50 percent are English Language Learners and 88 percent are living in poverty, all indicators that are used to classify the students as at-risk. However, these statistics do not convey the transformational work occurring under Verenice’s leadership. She has applied culturally responsive approaches to change behaviors and supported staff members as they apply a racial equity lens in their approach to student behavior and as they positively disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. Verenice is passionate about racial equity, bilingualism and community service.
