Biography

Lisa Goldman Rosas, PhD, MPH, is instructor of medicine in the Stanford School of Medicine. Dr. Goldman Rosas joined the Stanford Prevention Research Center as the Research Director of the program on Prevention Outcomes and Practices in 2010. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship on social disparities in health at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Goldman Rosas received her master’s degree in public health and PhD in epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Goldman Rosas’ research focuses on reducing the prevalence of obesity and related comorbidities among low-income minority children and their families in the United States. She is passionate about combining a community-based approach with rigorous research methods to address health equity. Her current research seeks to document multiple determinants of obesity ranging from the family context to the policy level. These strategies will inform policies that will address health equity; identify successful community based and policy interventions to reduce obesity disparities; and utilize state-of-the-art information technology to monitory and promote health. Her recent career development award from the American Heart Association is aimed at testing a family-based approach to reducing obesity among low-income Latino immigrant families. Dr. Goldman Rosas was previously a Latin American Research Fellow with the Population Council in Mexico City and collaborated with the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica in Mexico to address the health of Mexican migrants in the US and Mexico.
