Biography

Professor Wang graduated from Beijing Medical College in 1960 and began his medical career. He was a visiting scholar in Einstein Medical College, New York in 1983 and 1984. From 1986 through 1989, he served as a fellow of the US International Kellogg foundation. During his service in Beijing Medical university, he held many positions, including residence, attending physician, chief physician, associate professor, full professor, associate director of the People's Hospital, deputy director of the Blood Diseases Research Institute, academic vice president, executive vice president and president of Beijing Medical University. As a medical educator, Professor Wang visited the United States several times to learn advanced theories and practice of medical education and health administration, which he later applied in his work. He has made much success in medical education, hospital administration and research work management. His paper "Hospitals and Medical Schools Jointly Offering Medical Programs is an Effective Model" won the second prize for Excellent Higher Education Programs. He published two books related to hospital management, "Hospital Information System" and "Diagnosis and Treatment of Emergency High-risk Cases," which were welcomed by medical practitioners. Under his leadership, Beijing Medical University has made all round progress in disciplinary development, clinical work, teaching and research. The university has been approved for the National 211 Project which recognizes a few universities for priority development. In April 2000, Beijing Medical University merged into Peking University as part of Chinese government's effort to restructure its educational system. Professor Wang was appointed Chancellor of Peking University.
