Biography

Dr. Raymond J. Trybus retired from his position of Special Assistant for Grants and Academic Funding Initiatives at Fielding Graduate University position on June 30, 2011. Over the course of a full and diverse career, Dr. Trybus has used his doctoral degree in clinical psychology (St. Louis University) to pursue clinical work, but even more to move into the areas of university administration and research (where he believes clinical training to be even more relevant). Much of his clinical and research work has focused on issues of diversity, especially with respect to persons living with disability and/or with deafness or hearing loss. He also has research interests related to religion and spirituality as well as to leadership in various forms. Over the years he has served as a dean (Gallaudet University, California School of Professional Psychology, Fielding Graduate University), provost and vice president for academic affairs (National University), and chancellor (California School of Professional Psychology). He has also established and led research institutes or foundations at three institutions, and has served as executive director of a community nonprofit agency serving persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing. He has a lot of interest in travel and in languages, and is becoming more involved in the global view of psychology. Among his most important teachers and mentors are his wife Sandy, adult children David and Nicole, and grand-daughters Vanessa, Justine, and Danielle.
