Biography

Stanley Herman was a biology teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools from 1965-1970. From 1967-1971, he was a laboratory instructor for several National Science Foundation Summer Institutes, first at the University of Pittsburgh and then Vanderbilt University. While in Nashville, he served as an experimental biologist for the Veteran's Administration Hospital's Psycho-Pharmacology Research Laboratory. He returned to the Pittsburgh Public Schools in 1971 and served in a number of capacities until 1993. Among them were Associate Director of Middle School Planning, Director of Teacher Corps, principal of several middle and elementary schools, and Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Program Development, the latter from 1985-1993. From 1993-2001, he served as the Superintendent of the Woodland Hills School District. From 2001 -2003, he was the Vice-President of the Education Policy and Issues Center of Southwestern Pennsylvania. From 2003 to 2010, Dr, Herman served as the Chief Academic Officer for the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education program known as the Partnership for School District Improvement. Since 2010, he has continued his education consulting work with OnHand Schools, Inc.
