Biography

David R. Gamez has recently retired as President and CEO of Health Delivery, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that operates several year-round medical and dental centers, seasonal migrant clinics and mobile medical and dental services throughout Lower Michigan. He presently volunteers for several community organizations and provides consultation services for the National Center for Farmworker Health based in Austin, Texas Gamez began his career as a registered nurse at Saginaw General Hospital, serving as a clinical instructor for the hospital’s school of nursing, as well as emergency room supervisor and head nurse of the Intensive Care Department. Prior to joining Health Delivery, Gamez was instrumental in the formation of Group Health Services, which later became Blue Care Network of East Michigan. He is a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), Michigan Primary Care Association, and the National Center for Farmworker Health. Gamez is also a board member of the Saginaw County Crime Prevention Council, the Hispanic Coalition for Better Education, the Saginaw Promise Zone Authority, Central Michigan's School of Health Professions Advisory Board and the Saginaw County Business and Education Partnership. He served on the Board of Trustees of Delta College, and is presently on the Board of Control of Saginaw Valley State University. Gamez was the first recipient of the Delta College Distinguished Alumni Award, and has been recognized as Distinguished Alumni by Central Michigan University and Saginaw High School. He was also awarded the Outstanding Community College Alumnus Award from the Michigan Association of Community Colleges. In 2008, Delta College awarded him "The Spirit of Willie Thompson Multicultural Community Service Award." He also received The NAACP Freedom Fund Salute to Saginaw Heroes Award. In 2012, he was the recipient of the “ Lifetime Achievement in Migrant Health Award” by NACHC. Gamez was selected as a Fellow of the Salzburg Seminar in 1994, and was appointed as a W.K. Kellogg Fellow, traveling to South Africa and Brazil as part of the Kellogg leadership development program. He is a member of the Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance ( KFLA). Gamez earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Michigan University. He also attended the University of Michigan’s On Job/On Campus program in Health Care Administration. Gamez is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
