Biography

Pauline Dow, KNFP-15, is the Deputy Superintendent of Schools for the San Antonio Independent School District, where she ensures support to 93 schools by coordinating the collaborative efforts of Associate Superintendent for Academics, the Assistant Superintendents for School Leadership and Administration, the Senior Executive Director of Special Education and the Executive Director of Student Support Services. "These efforts ultimately affect our campuses, which is where both adults and students learn and grow each day. We are committed to: 1) Establishing active learning for students that is differentiated and equips them with the academic, social and emotional capital that they will need to excel in college as well as in challenging career opportunities, 2) Streamlining support to every SAISD campus and classroom, 3) Building teacher efficacy and agency through relevant, high quality professional development, 4) Promoting collaboration at all levels, every day. We are excited to discover together what our students can achieve and the heights they are able to reach." Prior to this Pauline served as Chief Instructional Officer for the North East ISD in San Antonio. She also served as the Chief Academic Officer for the Austin and the Ysleta Independent School Districts. She has focused on establishing meaningful standards of excellence, strengthening school-community partnerships and developing a culture of collaboration at all levels. Pauline's research has focused on the achievement of students in dual language education programs and the policy implications of bilingual schooling. Publications include a chapter, "Education Policies: Standardized Testing, English Language Learners and Border Futures" in Social Justice in the U.S.-Mexico Border Region, published in 2012 by Springer. In 2016, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus named her to the Texas Commission on Next Generation Assessment and Accountability. Pauline is an adjunct faculty member at Trinity University where she teaches a graduate course on curriculum and instruction for teachers on a path to becoming school principals.
