Biography
Amanda Manning (Food & Society Policy Fellowship) is the president of Amanda Dew Manning & Assoc, Inc. and Carolina Food Pros. Amanda Dew Manning & Associates, Inc. is a communications and marketing firm specializing in food, nutrition, and health. Carolina FoodPros ? promotes artisan growers and producers and preserves South Carolina's rich culinary heritage through education and experience. Amanda Dew Manning, former Associate Administrator of the Food and Consumer Service (FCS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), managed the largest school foodservice training and technical assistance effort ever undertaken by the USDA. The $24 million program was designed to support USDA School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children. She served as Assistant Director of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program in FCS Western Regional Office. While at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, she developed and managed national initiatives in comprehensive school health programs. Amanda was the first Nutrition Education and Training (NET) Program Coordinator for the State of California, developing the nationally-acclaimed K-12 nutrition education curriculum Choose Well, Be Well. She created and marketed the comprehensive school health program Healthy Kids, Healthy California, which has been widely modeled. A national speaker, trainer, and author, she has taught at the University of California-Berkeley and California State University-Sacramento. Amanda is a member of the Board of Directors of the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association and immediate past president of the South Carolina Specialty Foods Association. She is a member of Les Dames d'Escoffier, the International Association of Culinary Professionals, and the Southern Foodways Alliance. She received the Pacesetter Award from her alma mater, UNC-Greensboro School of Human Environmental Sciences, and was chosen a Community Scholar by the South Carolina Arts Commission in 2007. Amanda is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Nutrition Education and the l997 recipient of their distinguished Career Achievement Award, the Society's highest award given to a nutrition educator.
