Biography

Honorable Margaret Carey-McCray is a Circuit Judge for the Fourth Judicial District of Mississippi. The Fourth Circuit serves Leflore, Sunflower and Washington counties, all located in the Delta. She led the planning and implementation of the Fourth Circuit Drug Treatment Court and serves as its supervising judge. A long time civil rights, voting rights and community activist, Margaret is a Kellogg National Leadership Fellow and a Bannerman Fellow. She is the founding director of the Center for Constitutional Rights' Southern Regional Office "CCR-South" which was based in Greenville, Mississippi. She worked there for more than fifteen years before becoming a judge. She also worked in Washington, D.C. in the U. S. Commission for Civil Rights' Office of General Counsel and as a Staff Attorney and Teaching Fellow at Georgetown University Law Center's Institute for Public Representation, a public interest clinical program. Before law school, Margaret worked over 8 years on the assembly-line at General Motors in Flint, Michigan.
