Biography

Wil Bullock is an avid advocate for food access in urban communities, committed to raising awareness about the importance of making healthy food choices among young people. Sparking his career at the young age of 15, Wil worked at an urban youth garden where he learned the real value in growing fresh, healthy food. Since then, Wil has striven to spread his message in communities nationwide about the reality behind food's impact on society. Wil is a nationally recognized public speaker focused on raising awareness about the many problems affecting our current food system and the ways youth can become a part of the long-term solution to these problems such as rising obesity rates and food access. From his first speaking engagement in 2003 at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Food and Society Networking Conference in Houston, Texas, to the presentations Wil gives at local high schools in the Boston, Massachusetts, area, he demonstrates his natural ability to educate youth and adults alike about food issues and topics related to health. He speaks vibrantly about issues such as parent role models and eating habits; access to fresh, healthy food in low-income and urban communities; and the health risks the current food system creates in low-income communities. At 24-years old, Wil is an African American male from the inner-city Boston area, actively working in the agriculture community since 1995. He spends his time working with The Food Project, a non-profit organization that teaches youth about agriculture and youth-adult partnerships through hands-on experience. Wil is a gifted musician who incorporates music into the presentations he gives nationwide, using music as a channel to spread his message and his experiences to young people. Wil has been singing since the age of seven, receiving classical training at the New England Conservatory of Music and performing at the historic Appollo Theater in New York City.
