Biography

Dr. Tyrone R. Baines is President of T.R. Baines & Associates, a management consulting firm which specializes in Organizational Development, Team Building and Supplier Diversity. He retired from North Carolina Central University as a Senior Fellow (2008) and from The W.K. Kellogg Foundation as Director of the Kellogg Youth Initiatives Partnerships (2003). Before retiring in 2008, Baines served as a Diversity Consultant for American Honda Motor company in Torrence, CA. Baines has an extensive history with North Carolina Central University. In 1972, he served as an associate professor and director of the NCCU Public Administration Program. In 1979, he was appointed part-time assistant to the vice chancellor for academic affairs. In 1982, he became the vice chancellor for university relations. He was responsible for providing leadership to the division, which included admissions, security, athletics, development, news bureau, public relations, and placement. Baines is a Morgan State University graduate with a degree in sociology. He later pursued a masters degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the Kellogg Foundation in 1988 as program director and was responsible for developing and recommending proposals for funding in the areas of education and youth; managing funded projects, and developing programming priorities. He later supervised a statewide foundation youth development initiative with three satellite offices in Michigan. This 20-year initiative had an average annual budget of $8 million. Today he manages his consulting firm.
