Biography

Chimwemwe is currently working with the Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre as the Programmes Manager. She has a Masters Degree in Development Studies obtained from the University of Kwazulu Natal in Durban, South Africa and a BSc degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Malawi – Bunda College of Agriculture. She is currently doing her second Masters in Public Health with the College of Medicine, a constituent college of the University of Malawi. Her area of interest is Health Systems Management with special interest on Cervic Cancer Screening among HIV and AIDS affected women. Apart from her official engagements, Chimwemwe also does her community voluntary work with Kamphata Youth Organisation with a special focus on Adolescent Girls and Young Women sexual reproductive health. She mobilises girls who dropped out of school to go back to school and currently is supporting two needy girls (Kelita Kondwani and Charity Kondwani currently in form 4 at Mtethera Community Day Secondary School) and Angela Sibale who have just finished her secondary education. The support is mainly in form of school fees, other scholastic materials and advise. Chimwemwe in the past has also helped found sponsorships for needy boys and girls in the area who were selected to public Universities in the country but were at the verge of dropping out due to lack of financial support. These include among others Hezekia Azele and Sungeni Moyo who have just finished MBBS and BSc in Technical Education at College of Medicine and the Polytechnic (both constituent colleges of University of Malawi) respectively. Chimwemwe believes in helping young people help themselves especially through Education and making them realise their potential in live.
