Biography

Neo Matome-Harun is a Graphic Designer in the Centre for Continuing Education, University of Botswana. The Centre is responsible for providing distance education programmes and short courses for those who cannot pursue full-time programmes. Prior to joining the University of Botswana, Neo worked as Research Officer for the European Union funded Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional School of Art and Design Project based at National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare. The project researched the visual arts, design and art education, inclusive of their potential for employment generation within the then ten member SADC states of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. (1992–1994). Neo also worked as Curator of Art, National Museum and Art Gallery, Gaborone, Botswana (1989-1992). She has a Master's degree in Computer Graphics Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology, USA and a Bachelor's from Coventry University in the United Kingdom. Volunteer Activities/areas of interest Neo passionate about the visual arts and is committed to helping develop the arts in general in Botswana. To this end, she has served as Thapong International Artists’ Workshop Trust Founding Committee member; Member of the Advisory Committee, Botswana National Action Plan on Culture, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Gaborone; Committee member, Botswana Technical Education Programme (BTEP), Certificate in Jewellery Design and Manufacture programme; Committee member, Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) programme, University of Botswana. She is currently Deputy Chairperson of the Creative Industries Sector Committee under the Human Resources Development Council.
