Biography

Professor Wegman received his undergraduate education at Cornell University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He then attended the London School of Economics (England), where he received a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies. Wegman’s legal education was obtained at Columbia University, where he achieved his J.D. Degree in 1970. He practiced as a trial lawyer from 1970 to 1974 working as a prosecuting attorney at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, New York City. While at the District Attorney’s Office, Wegman served as Bureau Chief of the Criminal Complaints Bureau. After coming to Idaho in 1974, Wegman served as an Idaho State Trial Judge, with chambers at Rupert, Idaho. In 1977 he joined the faculty of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Idaho where he has taught undergraduate and M.B.A. courses in business law, government regulation, and real estate law. Professor Wegman also practiced law part time until 1989. His research interests are centered on the emerging legal issues involving professional liability and securities regulation . He has written articles on intellectual property, accountant liability, and securities regulation, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Professor Wegman combines an academic legal perspective with a practical business approach. Professor Wegman is married and lives in Moscow, Idaho. He enjoys skiing, rafting, fishing, sailing, and mountain biking. He has served as a volunteer ski patroller at Lookout Pass ski area for the last seventeen years. In July 2010 Professor Wegman retired from on-campus teaching, but he continues to teach two online courses he developed: Legal Environment of Business, and Commercial Law. Professor Wegman teaches these courses during the summer session only. In addition, he also teaches several sessions in the College of Business' Executive M.B.A. program.
