Biography

Kim Dobson Sydnor, PhD is currently Dean of the School of Community Health and Policy at Morgan State University and serves as Associate Professor for the Department of Behavioral Health Sciences. In addition, Dr. Sydnor is the Site Director for the W.K. Kellogg Health Scholars program - the Community-Based Participatory Research track. Dr. Sydnor has published research in a number of areas. Her current research efforts are focused on program evaluation in two key areas: child development and the Maryland courts. For the child development projects, her research applies a life course framework that examines the key contexts of school and family utilizing a community based participatory approach. While the research projects noted reflect specific topic areas, Dr. Sydnor is more broadly interested in the social determinants of health which are those conditions and circumstances that shape both behavior and health status of individuals and communities. In addition to her teaching, research, and administrative roles, Dr. Sydnor helps to build the next generation of public health leaders through mentoring and as an active member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
