Biography

Dr. Jay McAuliffe has worked at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - CDC since 1998, in the Office of Global Health, where he has responsibility for overseeing CDC's collaborations in the Americas. As such, he has had the opportunity to interact with all of the major program units which make up CDC, as well as with major external partner organizations, such as PAHO, World Bank, NGOs and others. Between the conclusion of his medical training and his arrival in Atlanta, Jay spent 18 years in northeast Brazil, working with both a US and local NGO, with a state secretary of health, and as a consultant. It was during this period that Jay participated in the Kellogg International Leadership Program (KILP-1). KILP and other Kellogg Foundation activities first provided a truly global perspective to the health issues he addressed and to the responses tailored for them, as well as providing a valued network of colleagues and friends. Jay's wife, Isabel, is from Fortaleza, Brazil, and his children - Jessica and Lucas - were both born there.
