Biography

I am a public health professional who focuses on teaching students the importance of prevention of disease before it ever begins or or when it is in the secondary stage. I also am working to teach students about the impact of violence on college students, children, and adolescents and the use of corporal punishment on mental health of kids. Dr. Lanier worked in the Efland Cheeks community with the Teens in Power (TIP) program. TIP was developed as a prevention effort in addressing the use of illicit drug use by adolescents in the community. The program focused on six main areas that included leadership development, health, recreation, tutoring, entrepreneurship, and recruiting minority youth into health careers. Dr. Lanier prepared an evaluation report of the program and presented it to the community in September, 1999.
