Biography

Margie Kitano is respected for her skills and sensitivity in working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups. An advocate for scholarship and academic rigor, Kitano has demonstrated dedication to educational equity through her work with ethnically diverse gifted women, the College of Education's Multicultural Infusion initiative, and gifted and diverse elementary grade students from low-income families. Kitano earned a bachelors degree in English Literature, a Master's in Special Education, and Ph.D in educational psychology, all from the University of California, Los Angeles. She came to SDSU in 1988, and has worked extensively with the San Diego City Schools to develop a collaborative certificate and master's program in developing gifted potential.
