Biography

Jane Kendall is Founder and President Emeritus of the N.C. Center for Nonprofits. The Center is a statewide network for board and staff members in nonprofits of all types and sizes, an information center on effective nonprofit organizational practices, and an advocate for the nonprofit sector as a whole. Over 1,500 nonprofits and foundations in all 100 counties of North Carolina now participate as Members. Jane founded the Center in 1990 with grassroots input from 2,153 nonprofits across North Carolina. With 37 years experience as a nonprofit director, she served previously as executive director of the National Society for Internships and Experiential Education. She also spent three years as a Kellogg Foundation National Fellow interviewing nonprofit leaders across the U.S. and in other countries about their biggest challenges in achieving their missions. Jane serves or has served on boards and councils for the National Center for Family Philanthropy, Southeastern Council of Foundations, Independent Sector, Kathleen Price Bryan Family Fund, National Council of Nonprofit Associations, The Aspen Institute's Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, and Triangle Community Foundation. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, she earned B.A. and M.A. degrees at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a daily gardener.
