Biography

Mrs. Johnson started her career in the human service field as Program Director at the Houston YWCA, Texas, Houston Texas. She was a psychiatric social worker at the State Hospital in Wernersville State Hospital in Wernersville, PA„ she held supervisory positions with the Children's Aid Society of Berks County and the Children's Services of Berks County, PA. She became Assistant Executive Director of the United Way of Berks County, Pa, the first in a series of local and national positions in the United Way movement: Director of Planning and Allocations at the United Way of Delaware and Associate Executive Director of the United Way of Greater Rochester, N.Y.-Mrs. Johnson joined the United Way of America, Washington,D.C as a Senior Vice President responsible for Strategic Planning and Public Policy. She became President and Chief Executive of Family Service America Families Intenational from 1983 until retirement in 1994. Education Mrs. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Albright College, Reading, PA; a Masters Degree from Case Western University School of Applied Social Sciences, Cleveland, OH, and a certificate in Executive Management from the Harvard School of Business, Boston, MA. Honors and Awards * Mrs. Johnson received an Honorary Doctor of Humanities from Albright College, Reading, PA, and an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Alvernia University, Reading ,PA. * Mrs. Johnson was elected a Fellow in the Wisconsin Arts, Science and Letters. * She was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. Other honors include: Distinguish Alumnae Award of Case Western University; Convocation Speaker at Case Western University and recipient of the President's Award for Distinguish Service: Medical College of Wisconsin Center Award for Distinguish Service in Advancing Community Engagement. She was named one of the top 5 best Managers in the U.S.in the Social Service Field in the March 1990 Business Magazine, one of the top 12 non-profit Executive women in America by Savvy magazine; the top 100 Black Business and Professional Women in America by Dollar and Cents magazine, Distinguish Women of America Award by Northwood University Midland, MI. Mrs. Johnson was one of 20 women in the U.S and Canada selected to attend the Jerusalem Wornen's Seminar in Israel and Egypt, she received the Human Relations Award from the Wisconsin Region of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and, the Rotary Club of Milwaukee awarded her the Vocational Recognition Award. She received the Champion of Catholic Schools Award from the Catholic Diocese of Milwaukee, and the Christian Faith and Leadership Award from Messmer Catholic, a Special Recognition Award from Senator Russ Feingold, and the Dream Catchers Award from the FSA Council of Executives. Mrs. Johnson was the keynote speaker along with Bishop Tutu on Ethics in Higher Education at the Stollenach University. Cape Town, South Africa; a keynote speaker at Seoul, South Korea for the establishment of the Peter Drucker Society of Asia. Mrs. Johnson serves as a judge for the annual Peter Drucker $100,000 Award for Innovation.
