Biography

Julie M. Cowie guides people to be congruent. She consults with professionals who yearn to live and work from core passions and strengths. Drawing from her theological training and business experience, Julie founded Congruency, a company whose mission is to align the professional life with personal convictions. She works with business and non-profit leaders to explore what makes work good and nurturing, with attention to both increased productivity and deepened meaning. Julie is the Lead Facilitator of Great Work, a Congruency seminar that brings alignment and balance to the work lives of professionals. A consultant and ordained minister, the Reverend Cowie recently completed a three-year fellowship in leadership development with the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Julie keynoted on the topic of spirituality and business at the Sixth International Conference on New Paradigms in Guadalajara, Mexico. She has had articles published nationally and internationally in magazines and journals. Julie also frequently leads workshops. Recently, she led a workshop at ?Principles and Practices of Servant-Leadership,? the Tenth Annual International Conference presented by The Greenleaf Center for Servant-Leadership. Ms. Cowie has taught courses she developed for the Master of Management program and the Emeritus College of Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI. In addition to more than nine years in ministry, Rev. Cowie completed the Contemplative Group Leaders Program with the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation. Trained in media, Ms. Cowie has been involved in productions for KnowledgeTV Cable network, the Cameroon Baptist Convention (West Africa); public access cable television, and radio stations. She currently interviews guests for ?Passages,? an award-winning nationally syndicated radio show. Well-traveled, she has learned from business leaders in Mexico, China, Israel, and Brazil. She was a resident of Cameroon, West Africa, for two years. Clients include leaders from Steelcase, Feyen-Zylstra Incorporated, Grand Rapids Community College, the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, Leadership Grand Rapids, Michigan Trails Girl Scout Council, The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, Forest Hills Public Schools, Lakeshore Center for Independent Living, Katz Media Corporation, and Western Theological Seminary. Ms. Cowie holds an A.B. with High Honors from the University of Michigan and a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. She was ordained in 1991.
