Biography

Emily Chamlee-Wright is Provost and Dean of the College at Washington College on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Prior to her appointment as Provost, she was the Elbert H. Neese Professor of Economics and Associate Dean at Beloit College. Chamlee-Wright earned her PhD in Economics from George Mason University in 1993. Her research investigates the confluence of cultural and economic processes. She has published four books, including The Cultural and Political Economy of Recovery: Social Learning in a Post-Disaster Environment (Routledge 2010), Culture and Enterprise: The Development, Representation, and Morality of Business, with Don Lavoie (Routledge 2000), and The Cultural Foundations of Economic Development (Routledge 1997), and co-editor of The Political Economy of Hurricane Katrina and Community Development (Edward Elgar 2010) with Virgil Storr. Professor. Her current book project is title Liberal Learning and the Art of Self Governance (forthcoming, Routledge). Chamlee-Wright is a former W.K. Kellogg National Leadership Fellow and a recipient of the Underkoffler Award for Excellence in Teaching from Beloit College. This fall she will receive the Distinguished Alumna Award from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at George Mason University.
