Biography

Kathy Bonk KNFP-9, is executive director and co-founder of CCMC, the Communications Consortium Media Center in 1988 with its mission to use communications strategies for policy change. Over the past 35 years, Kathy has been at the forefront of dozens of issue campaigns with various coalitions that marked a sea change in domestic and global policies affecting women, children, families and communities around issues related to child welfare, women’s equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, early education the census, human rights and telecommunications. She is the co-author of the Jossey-Bass Guide to Strategic Communications for Nonprofits part of the Jossey-Bass Nonprofit and Public Management series. Previously Kathy was the Director of the Women’s Media Project at the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund; the media director for the National Commission on Working Women; a Public Information Officer for the National Commission for International Women’s Year and the Houston Women’s Conference at the U.S. Department of State; and as a research analyst for the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. She is on the visiting faculty of Georgetown University’s Center for Juvenile Justice Reform at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. She serves on several boards of directors including the National Council of Women’s Organizations, the National Press Club Journalism Institute, the Kakenya Center for Excellence, a model girls school in Kenya and Pathfinder International and the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, NY. Kathy is a strategic adviser to Ms. magazine.
