Biography

Oronde Miller is a Program Officer focusing on racial equity and community engagement at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. Prior to this role, Oronde was an independent consultant specializing in racial equity, child socialization and family dynamics, and human service system reform/transformation efforts. Before working as a full time independent consultant, Oronde was a Senior Associate at the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) in Washington, DC, where he led the Alliance for Racial Equity in Child Welfare, a national entity aimed at eliminating racial disparities in child welfare and related family-serving systems. Prior to this role, Oronde worked as a Director of Technical Assistance and then Senior Director of Strategic Consulting at Casey Family Programs, and as a Research Associate at both the Child Welfare League of America and at the National Center on Permanency for African American Children. Much of Oronde's career has focused on undoing the effects of racism on the developmental experiences of children and families and the major systems that touch their lives, especially the child welfare and education systems. He maintains an active blog where he shares information about the influence of race and racism in the experiences of African-American children and families. He also operates the Institute for Family and Child Well-Being, an online information resource center. All of his work is intended to support increased understanding and greater healing from the deep and painful effects of racism in American society.
