Biography

Lucinda Nevarez is an Assistant Professor in the department of social work at The University of Texas at San Antonio. She is an alumna of the Kellogg Health Scholars Program, completing her postdoctoral training at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer. Having received her masters’ degree from the University of Houston, she worked as a medical social worker and pursued a doctorate in social work from the same university. She examined and continues to pursue how oppression exists and is maintained in society, how discrimination and racism are internalized, and how those experiences influence health and health behaviors, contributing to disparities.
