As the senior leader of the Sg2 Center for Performance Strategy, Joan specializes in working with executive leadership teams to improve growth and performance across the continuum. The Center for Performance Strategy works from the perspective that an organization’s future success depends on its ability to demonstrate strong performance in clinical effectiveness, operational efficiency, prudent margin management and growth. Joan also provides thought leadership in the areas of future-focused facility planning and strategic operations in community and post-acute care services. As the company’s chief nursing officer, Joan leads the Sg2 Nursing Leaders Forum, an international community of nursing executives leading the transformation of nursing practice and operations across the care continuum. Joan is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences on multiple topics, including performance measurement for clinical departments and leading practices in strategic planning and operations. As a senior leader on custom solution engagements, Joan helps Sg2 clients enhance operational efficiencies, implement quality and performance improvement initiatives, optimize care delivery and develop capacity management programs. Before joining Sg2, Joan had 10 years of consulting experience, including serving as vice president and general manager of Cardinal Health Consulting and Services, a national firm of more than 90 consultants. As a consultant, she led a variety of successful projects in areas such as quality and performance improvement, patient safety, case management, patient care delivery models, patient throughput and leadership development. Previously, Joan was the division director of patient care services for a large hospital system in Chicago, IL. In this role, she was responsible for redesigning clinical operations and new business development for multiple service lines. She also held leadership positions at the American Hospital Association’s Division of Nursing and a faculty appointment at the University of Illinois. Joan received a master’s degree in nursing from Loyola University. As a WK Kellogg Fellow in the International Leadership Program, Joan focuses on health and education development in underserved communities in the US, South America, Mexico and southern Africa.
