Biography

Carlos Monteagudo, MD/MPH, KNLP 16, is a practicing public sector psychiatrist and social entrepreneur with a long and abiding interest in studying what motivates behavior, social change, social movements, and political leadership. His KNLP learning plan was titled "Spirit in Public Life" and in 2001 he applied his findings to co-found SEED (Solutions for Economic Empowerment and Dignity), a nonprofit focused on organizational and leadership development within the public sector using the lens of spirituality (visit www.SEEDimpact.org for more information). Carlos is currently extending the principles and methodologies developed at SEED to found SolarNation. Solar Nation aims to vastly increase installed solar infrastructure to combat climate change by activating and supporting college, university, and high school students to organize communities to crowdfund local solar projects. In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, for the past 25 years Carlos has been practicing public sector psychiatry at various settings including North Central Bronx Hospital, Rikers Island Prison, The University Settlement of NY, New Hampshire (State) Hospital, The Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Boston City Hospital, and Cook County Hospital. He was Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Dartmouth Medical School and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is Board certified in Adult, Forensic, Geriatric and Addiction Psychiatry. He was a psychiatric fellow at Harvard Medical School where he did his residency. His Medical Internship was served at Boston University at Boston City Hospital. Carlos holds an MD and an MPH from the University of Illinois. In 2009, Carlos ran for US Congress in the IL-5th District special election. Subsequently he served as a policy analyst at the Alan Khazei campaign for US Senate.
