Biography

Retired Director of the Ford Institute of Community Building from April, 2003 - December, 2011. Previously Leadership Specialist for Oregon State University Extension Service, on faculty of School of Forestry, and with Western Rural Development Center from 1996. With University of Alaska system from 1984 to 1996 with final rank of Professor of Public Administration. Previous employment in environmental consulting and landscape architecture. Degrees include BLA in landscape architecture and MS-PhD in natural resource management. Born in Minneapolis, raised in Oregon, lived 17 years in Alaska. Enjoy family/grandchildren, driving Oregon back roads, carpentry and home remodeling, and tending a garden and small vineyard. Presently volunteer in the neighborhood (of small farms) visiting with elders who no longer drive. Also, am active on graduate student thesis committees in the fields of community development, especially cross-cultural dimensions of community development.
