Biography

Joan Furman (KNFP-5) is a holistic nurse practitioner whose focus is creating a healthful mind/body relationship, regardless of health or illness. In her counseling practice she employs experiential therapy and psychodrama, Reiki and other healing touch therapies, guided imagery and various approaches to conscious living and dying. She teaches workshops in meditation, forgiveness, and other personal growth topics and is a group leader at Onsite, an intensive group therapeutic center. She is the author of The Dying Time: Practical Wisdom for the Dying and Their Caregivers (Crown, 1997), as well as numerous articles. Joan has a BA in psychology from the University of Tennessee, and an MSN in nursing from Vanderbilt University. She is a board-certified Advanced Practice Holistic Nurse and has served on the national certification review board. She is a Reiki Master Therapist and Teacher. In addition to her private practice, Joan serves on the Board of Nashville Psychotherapy Institute, and as faculty at Tennessee State University School of Nursing.
