Biography

Galen Cranz is a Professor of Architecture, a Ph.D. sociologist by training, and a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. She brought these three perspectives together in her quietly radical book The Chair: Rethinking Culture, Body and Design. She consults with chair designers and manufacturers. She teaches social and cultural approaches to architecture and urban design. Her research includes parks, sustainability, housing for the elderly, and her current research is about how taste is used in interior design and other places. She studies vision with Peter Grunwald of New Zealand.
