Biography

Markita D. Cooper joined the faculty of FAMU College of Law after 17 years on the faculty of Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California. At Golden Gate, Dean Cooper served as Associate Dean for J.D. Program Academic Affairs and Faculty Chair. Her primary teaching and scholarship interests include torts, privacy, defamation, and employment law. She has published articles on defamation and other torts in the workplace and recently completed a chapter for a forthcoming book on California Supreme Court Justice Jesse Carter. Dean Cooper has served as chair of the Section on Teaching Methods of the Association of American Law Schools, a member of the Curriculum Committee of the American Bar Association Section on Legal Education, chair of the Committee on Ethnic Minority Relations of the State Bar of California, a Trustee of the National Urban League, and received a Kellogg National Fellowship in recognition of her leadership skills. Dean Cooper holds an A.B. degree, with distinction, from Stanford University and a J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
